포스터

In the context of the present, Leeungno’s art, with its characteristic calligraphic letters and human forms, seems to represent, above all, “the historicity of individuals.” Artists working today tend to focus on historical movements and changes brought about by individuals, by ordinary people. In this sense, Leeungno and contemporary artists share similar philosophical approaches to their artistic practice. For this exhibition, the Leeungno Museum has realized a number of Lee’s works in media art forms. The newly devised display invites visitors to experience the digital edition of Lee’s work and re-interpret the philosophy that underpinned Lee’s art, by engaging with all the senses and allows the audience to enter into a kind of artistic conversation with Leeungno. In this way, the exhibition aims to deepen audience members’ understanding of the meanings, values, and possibilities found in Lee’s work through their dynamic interaction with the convergence between his work and new media. Each work presents a storyline that encourages visitors to express themselves and take part in the piece. This is a brand new way of delivering Lee’s artistic concerns and humanistic sensibilities in addressing themes like people, landscape, animals, and calligraphic letters. The interaction with these ever-changing digital displays inspires visitors’ creativity to mix their own stories with each storyline and arrive at different conclusions. This process allows each member to vividly understand the historicity of individuals expressed in Lee’s art. From theme to related events and educational programs, this exhibition has been organized in close collaboration between the exhibition curator and a media art project team. Reflecting their various and creative ideas, this exhibition suggests a new modality for displaying Leeungno’s art, and is expected to lead to more new, original interpretations of his work. This exhibition, Through All Your Senses, held during the 2019 Culture & Art Season in Daejeon, is an opportunity to experience a fresh model of the Leeungno Museum’s exhibitions. As a museum located in Daejeon, the cultural center of the Korean southwest, the Leeungno Museum remains committed to organizing exhibitions of interesting works and thematic content. In particular, the Museum’s collaboration with KAIST’s Graduate School of Culture Technology will be playing an essential role during the entire period of this exhibition project. Since it takes place during the Year of Daejeon-Visit, the exhibition hopes to contribute to broader awareness of what the cultural output of the museum, and of Daejeon as a whole, have to offer.
